DI: For the people that do have a life-changing event at 29 or 58, they have the ability to confirm what they read in their horoscope. For the people that don’t experience any such event, is there any sort of accountability there on your part?
SM: I say, look, this is your time to do something. If you don’t put your marbles on the table for something at the critical time to do so, you will have to do it when you’re older. I think you are equipped for large changes when you are young. Yes, there is accountability.
Another famous one: Uranus opposing Uranus at 40 to 42, a half cycle of Uranus’ tour around the Sun. Age 43 is hard for a lot of different reasons. That’s usually a crisis time. 40 to 43, but mostly 40 to 42 because Uranus takes 84 years to revolve around the Sun, and at the half-cycle, we are between 40 and 42 They call it “mid-life crisis,” but we call it “opposition on your chart.” It’s really the year that you become truly yourself.
People have a yearning for stability. If you want to know how Saturn or Uranus might affect you, you have to have your natal chart done.

DI: How do you know specifically about a pregnancy that was unexpected?
SM: For instance Virgo is going to be affected by the new moon January 1, which will bring four heavenly bodies into their fifth house of love, which also rules among other things conception. That new moon will be in a fierce angle to Uranus. This can give a number of various developments. There are too many examples to list here.
DI: So some Virgos are going to experience accidental pregnancy? I’m a little skeptical of this whole thing.
SM: Yes, there’s a danger of that because of the planets stacking up in the fifth house of reproduction. Be careful. I’m not saying every single Virgo is going to get pregnant. I am dealing with rising and falling probability statics. When I see a strong trend coming according to my calculations, I am duty bound to mention it.
Not everything can be “proven,” as different aspects cover many instances. We hope someday astrology will be scientifically validated. I mean, intuitively, astrology makes no sense, but neither can a 50,000 ton piece of metal can take you from New York to Los Angeles through the air. Look, I’m writing 48,000 words a month. I’m not THAT creative!

DI: Why is that?
SM: Mercury was retrograde, and Mercury rules communication, thinking, judgment, objective things, including websites and all written documents. When Mercury starts retrograding, it’s an instant sign that the wind is changing direction and that it is not a time to make important decisions or to sign contacts. You need to slow down when Mercury is in retrograde, for we often rush and create errors.
DI: Slow down and pay attention to what you’re doing. That to me feels like good advice 100% of the time.
SM: Yes, but during Mercury retrograde, we become more forgetful. We lose our eyeglasses in the cab, and we leave our cell phone in the plane. We are pressured to rush. We must not rush, but actually slow down during these phases. Any contract signed with Mercury retrograde would have to be renegotiated again later, assuming you’d even want to continue the relationship later.
